Regular Music is an exploratory cosmic psych group from Portland, Oregon. On Vase & Ass, the three members alternate between synthesizers, various percussion, and plucking strings to create a lush and labyrinthine mesh of layers. The sound of tablas features prominently on several tracks and propel the epic and floating arrangements in a Middle Eastern direction, blending organic and synthetic elements to perfection. Thematically, Vase & Ass deals with French antiphilosopher Jean Baudrillard’s idea of transaesthetics and art as pure seduction, which is referenced in several of the titles, and mirrored in the enthusiastic disappearing act at the heart of Regular Music’s improvisational tactics.
Regular Music has previously released material on Under the Spire, Field Hymns, The Real Future Recording Company, and Audio Dregs Recordings. Vase & Ass is their first for Skrot Up.
