about

Skrot Up | SUT62
LP
Edition of 330

Heterotopias is the enigmatically titled debut album of dark and melancholic synth pop from Chevalier Avant Garde, two European expatriates based in Montreal. The album features ten songs known from the duo's live repertoire of the past few years, now beautifully captured on vinyl. The sound of Chevalier Avant Garde is a mix of different elements and styles. Beginning with the scissoring hi-hat rhythm of the opening track "Over the Fountain," to the calm and upbeat "Axion," and the infectiously melodic swell of vocal harmonies on "Young," they combine the adrenalin-inducing grooves of early house experiments with the bittersweet romanticism of vintage synth pop and evoke a melancholic and dystopian twilight atmosphere. Warm and full in tone, yet weirdly hypnotic and glasslike at the same time, Chevalier Avant Garde manage to cultivate their wide range of influences and create something all their own with Heterotopias.
